Metro Athletics is happy to announce a new initiative that will recognize the administrators and athletic directors of our zone.
This recognition piece is to showcase the outstanding leadership and contributions made by individuals who advocate for their student athletes, coaches, colleagues and programs in our schools. The service and dedication that these individuals contribute to their schools and our zone needs to be spotlighted for the fundamental roles they play in high school athletics.

Nominations can come from fellow colleagues, parents and student athletes.

Metro Athletics Keystone Award - Athletic Director Award
This award is to recognize the foundational role of an Athletic Director in shaping high school athletics programs. The Athletic Director is the fundamental and essential part of the program that all others rely on to maintain the integrity of the schools' athletics programs. This award is to acknowledge the service, dedication and contributions made to student athletes and school athletics.

The nominees of the Metro Athletics Keystone Award should embody the following characteristics:

  • Must be an Athletic Director in a Metro Athletics member school, with more than 5 years of experience as an Athletic Director
  • Displays exceptional leadership among student athletes, coaches and colleauges
  • Demonstrates service and dedication to staff, coaches and student athletes
  • Advocates for diversity, equality and inclusion in school athletic programs
  • Has made significant contributions to school’s athletic operations and programs
  • Shows an ongoing commitment to long-term impact on school athletics programs not only in their school but also in their district
  • Ability to improve the value and efficiency of programs within their building
  • Willingness to seek change to athletic endeavours within Metro Athletics

Nominations must be for an Athletic Director in a Metro Athletics member school and have had more than 5 years of experience in the role and MUST include this submission form - filled out as thoroughly as possible; a picture of nominee and at least two letters of endorsement.


Metro Athletics Impact Award - Administrator Award
This award is presented to an Administrator that demonstrates outstanding leadership. The individual has made significant contributions to their school's athletic programs through professional example, advocacy of their staff, student athletes, coaches and programs and a demonstrated commitment to the growth of sports within their building.

The nominees of the Metro Athletics Impact Award should demonstrate the following:

  • Must be an Administrator at a Metro Athletics member school (AP/VP/Principal)
  • Has made innovative contributions to athletics within their school
  • Displays commitment to qualify, equitable and inclusive athletics programs in their building
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire student athletes and staff to higher levels of accomplishments
  • Advocates for opportunity for student athletes, coaching staff and Athletics department
  • Willingness to engage and seek change to athlete endeavours within Metro Athletics

Nominations should be for an Administrator in a Metro Athletics member school and MUST include this submission form - filled out as thoroughly as possible; a picture of nominee and at least two letters of endorsement.


Jono Harkins Memorial Award - New Athletic Director Award
This award is in honour of friend and colleague Jono Harkins from Archbishop MacDonald High School, who was an Athletic Director that poured his heart and soul into his school’s athletic program. This award is in recognition of an Athletic Director in Edmonton Metro for outstanding service and exceptional contributions as an Athletic Director within their first five years.

The nominees of the Jono Harkins Memorial Award should embody the following characteristics:

  • Outstanding service as an Athletic Director in the first five years of the role
  • Displays commitment to higher education and the student-athletes at their school
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire individuals or colleagues to high levels of accomplishments
  • Shows an ongoing commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion
  • Advocates for higher education and the educational, personal and athletic pursuits of student-athletes
  • Willingness to seek change to athletic endeavours within Metro Athletics

Nominations must be in their first 5 years as an Athletic Director at a Metro Athletics member school and MUST include this submission form - filled out as thoroughly as possible; a picture of nominee and at least two letters of endorsement.


Submission Deadline for all the above awards is Thursday May 22.
